The Delta Institute implements programs to improve environmental quality and promote economic development. Delta established this site to create an innovative system for individuals and organizations to fund conservation activities. These activities help reduce the impacts of climate change and have other direct environmental impacts such as habitat creation, better farming practices, water and air quality improvement, and soil conservation.
Delta has created a three-step approach to address climate change.
Calculate
The average U.S. citizen is responsible for 20 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year. It’s important to find out what your baseline is, and we’ve created a calculator that provides an estimate based on several lifestyle variables.
Reduce
Once you’ve found out what your carbon footprint is, you can learn about ways to decrease your emissions. We’ve compiled a list of activities for you to find ways to lessen your impact.
Offset
For those emissions that you can’t decrease any further, you can purchase offset credits to reduce your emissions by storing them through someone else’s beneficial activities.
Delta is different in its carbon offset program structure. Delta contracts directly with the farmers, foresters, and other project owners, completes its own due diligence to ensure the eligibility of the projects enrolled, completes annual third-party verification of its program, and lists every sale and retirement on the web to be as transparent as possible. You can learn about the details of our program and process here on the site.
