Delta Carbon Generates Over $400,000 in Revenue for Michigan Landowners

Delta Carbon officially retires first offset credits
January 8, 2008. The Delta Carbon program has officially retired its first offset credits. The first fourteen people who purchased credits generated 100 metric tons of carbon offsets sales. Delta retired those credits on the Chicago Climate Exchange on their behalf. The money generated from the sales will fund the conservation activities of farmers and landowners enrolled in the Delta Carbon program. The conservation activities sequester carbon dioxide as well as increase soil quality, reduce runoff, improve air quality and conserve habitat. Delta Institute launches its Carbon Credit Offset Program

The offset projects, in which Delta invests, also have a wide range of environmental quality benefits and promote the establishment and continuance of conservation practices.

The Illinois Conservation and Climate Initiative (ICCI) is a joint project of the State of Illinois and the Delta Institute that allows farmers and landowners to earn greenhouse gas emissions credits when they use conservation tillage, plant grasses and trees, or capture methane with manure digesters.
